What to do in Sukhothai
Sukhothai is at the origin of what we now know as Thailand. It was after the emergence of Sukhothai, as the epicenter of a monarchy, that the unification of the various settlements, that until then were controlled by the Khmer empire, took place.
Wat Mahathat | Sukhothai
Wat Mahathat, built between the years 1290 and 1350, is the most visited temple in Sukhothai historical park and one of them most impressive in Thailand. This vast complex, representative of the center of the universe, was the spiritual center of the Kingdom of Sukhothai.
Wat Si Sawai
The Wat Si Sawai temple is a Hindu shrine, dedicated to Shiva, that was after converted to Buddhism. It is located in the central sector, close to Wat Mahathat and Wat Tra Phang Ngoen. Founded at the end of the 12th century, in this temple with strong Lopburi influence, stand out 3 worked Prangs and several columns.
