Mai<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><div class=\"content-container\">\n<p><strong>Wat Chedi Luang<\/strong>, built in the 14th century, was the temple where the most important relic of <a href=\"https:\/\/backpackers-bay.com\/en\/thailand-travel-tips\/\">Thailand<\/a>, the Emerald Buddha, was kept.<\/p>\n<p>This complex is composed of a huge Chedi, approximately 40 meters high, despite the original 80 meters which did not survive a strong earthquake that affected the Chiang Mai area.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it remains an impressive and imponent structure. The serpent statues that line the stairs on each of Chedi sides, along with the beautiful elephant sculptures, converge with the temple dimension to make it a highlight in the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/backpackers-bay.com\/en\/what-to-do-in-chiang-mai\/\">Chiang Mai<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this religious complex you can also see Intakin, the pillar of the city. According to legend it is the replica of the pillar offered by the god Hindra to the inhabitants of that zone, still before the foundation of the city of Chiang Mai. It represents the protection of the city and its center.
